Long-term management of an Anxiety

We all hear the word anxiety is used loosely, but what is anxiety exactly?

Anxiety is a normal stress reaction and can be beneficial in some situations. It can alert us to dangers and help us prepare and pay attention. It is the feeling of fear about what’s to come. Ordinary anxiety is a feeling that comes and goes but does not interfere with your everyday life. In the case of an anxiety disorder, the sense of fear may be with you all the time. It is intense and sometimes debilitating.

If anxiety is a regular part of your life, learning how to manage it is fundamental. It will look like a combination of things, like talk therapy, meditation, eating the right foods and incorporating the right food supplement into your everyday routine.

We’ll show you where to start.

 Have a daily meditation

Just 5 min of meditation helps you train your brain to dismiss anxious thoughts when they arise. I know it’s hard to shut off your brain. If you find it difficult and keep telling yourself it is impossible for you, don’t stress! There are options. You can download Insight Timer and choose a guided meditation (great place to start) of your choice. If this is still not your thing, we recommend you start with yoga.

Try adaptogens, foods to supplement your diet.

Introducing adaptogens into your daily routine is fundamental when it comes to dealing with anxiety. These plant and fungi-based substances exist to help the body adapt to emotional, mental, and physical stressors. Licensed naturopathic doctor and functional medicine practitioner Brooke Kalanick, PhD, ND, MS, likes to describe adaptogens as “one of the best tools we have for restoring communication between the body and the brain and reducing stress.”

Studies on animals and isolated neuronal cells have revealed that adaptogens exhibit neuroprotective, anti-fatigue, antidepressive, anxiolytic, nootropic and Central Nervous System stimulating activity.

Anxiety can be incredibly exhausting - it takes a lot of energy away from us. Several clinical trials demonstrate that adaptogens exert an anti-fatigue effect that increases mental work capacity against a background of stress and fatigue, particularly in tolerance to mental exhaustion and enhanced attention. These plants and fungi are your besties!

Our Essence of Zen elixir spray is your daily companion to feeling calm and grounded. You can check it out in our shop! We have consciously blended adaptogens to create a quantum formula for you to be sorted in feeling rooted. This way, you don’t have to take a million supplements; you can take one and know it works.

Exercise…ah this old chestnut!

Exercising regularly is a great way to scare off anxiety symptoms. Engaging in exercise diverts you from the very thing you are anxious about.

But how does it help?

Moving your body decreases muscle tension, lowering the body’s contribution to feeling anxious. Getting your heart rate up changes brain chemistry, increasing the availability of important anti-anxiety neurochemicals, including serotonin, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF), and endocannabinoids.

What’s more, exercise activates frontal regions of the brain responsible for executive function, which helps control the amygdala, our reacting system to real or imagined threats to our survival.

As you can see, exercise is a great natural way of managing your anxiety and allowing yourself to feel calm, light, free, joyful and energetic.

Yes, you can!

Living with anxiety can be very debilitating, but know that you have tools at your disposal to empower you to feel calmer, more robust, rooted and closer to your authentic self.
